John Walton did a 9 darter in the Winmau World Masters a few minutes ago. I was watching the game, but I left the room just a couple of minutes before he did the 9 darter.... Congratulations to John "Boy" for doing the 9 darter on stage. It was also recorded by the BBC.

I am hosting the drawsheets and results from Winmau World Masters 2007 and Lakeside 2008 Play-Offs for the World Darts Federation. The internet service provider used by the WDF are freezing all accounts on their servers for one week because of a upgrade. The notice was made just a few hours before they closed the access to the servers....

The database with the stage finals from Czech Open 2007 is now available for download. Version 2.5.1.2 is also out. There was a bug in the "Match Details" screen in the 2.5.1.1 version. When showing the match details for a county match with less than 12 players on the team, all the stats for the away team would fail to show (blank lines only).

Thank you to the President of the Czech Darts Organisation, Mr. Jan Prikryl for the donation.
The database section contains now 82 datbases, so I probably have to redesign the download section in the near future. Most of the documentation is also rather outdated. My problem is that I'm simply to busy to catch up with the docs.

It looks like I finally have solved the problems running Darts for Windows 2008 on Windows Vista. I had to rewrite a lot of the code to avoid the problems caused by Vista. I had to remove the configuration file "dartsforwin.ini" from the C:\Windows directory and place all the DfW settings in the registry instead. The drawback of this is that when you start the new version (2.5.1.1) , all your previous settings (colours, sound settings and so on) will be lost and reset to default.I also had to rewrite the online registration of DfW. When you click the link "I'm allready registered - Download unlock code", you will be asked to enter the name you used when you registered your license, to confirm the registration.
Click link below to download the new version.

I have improved the tournament part a bit by adding a lot of filters to the draw sheets, giving the user a lot of options on how to display players/pairs in the draw sheet. I have also created an import and export function of scores in DfW, making it easy to copy scores from other databases. I have no documentation on how to use the import/export function at the moment, but I will create a "how to" when I get the time. I have also added a few filters in the import of players function. It is now possible to set the sorting of the players in the following order:
Alphabetical-Firstname Lastname
Alphabetical-Lastname Firstname
Alphabetical-Teamname, Firstname Lastname
Alphabetical-Teamname, Lastname Firstname

The new version will be available for download Sunday 04.11.2007 at approx 21:00 CET. I have just tested DfW once again on Windows Vista. For me as an IT person, I must say, what a crappy operating system !
I managed to get DfW up and running by changing the security on the DfW install folder (I changed it to C:\Darts) and then running the program as "Administrator" by right clicking the shortcut on the desktop. I also had to enter my name and unlock code manually to let Vista accept DfW writing the license to a small text file and unlock it. If I clicked the link in DfW to register automatically, I got an "File access" error all the time. I also got the classic "Software protection error: 006". What a piece of sh... from Micro$oft. It is only an innocent text file DfW writes to, not a virus or malware program !
I still don't know how to solve the Vista problem. I will probably find a solution to the problem when I have done a few more tests. I bought the Vista license a few months back, but I have refused to use Vista until now. I have XP on a separate hard-disk so I can switch the OS any time I want. I only want to use Vista for finding a solution to the DfW problem. As soon as the problem has been solved, bye, bye Vista !

A new version of Darts for Windows is just around the corner. I used the export/import function to go through all 575 matches from the World Cup 2007 databases and checking them for errors and also merging all matches into one database. I have also added a few filters in the import of players function. It is now possible to set the sorting of the players in the following order:
Alphabetical-Firstname Lastname
Alphabetical-Lastname Firstname
Alphabetical-Teamname, Firstname Lastname
Alphabetical-Teamname, Lastname Firstname

I got the flu so I'm not so very productive at the moment. Probably got it from the air condition in the US (hot-cold-hot-cold all day). I'm still cleaning up the World Cup 2007 database and will publish it when it's finished. I'm also including the full draws in the database.

I'm in Palm Springs at the moment, leaving for Las Vegas in 10 minutes. Palm Spring is a fantastic place. Easy access to the booze (cheap to) and it's is a lot warmer here than in Los Angeles.I have watched a lot of darts today from the SBS6 stream. I do have the databases from the World Cup 2007, but I miss the finals and I'm also going to merge all the databases into one.

Greetings from Santa Barbara, California. I finally have an internet connection again, but only for a few hours before I leave for Palm Springs tomorrow morning, well it's actually today for the europeans because it is still Friday night here in the US. On Sunday I leave for Las Vegas. I do hope they have an intenet connection at the Venetian where I'm staying. When I was in Mexico, I paid $27 for one hour of crappy 10 kilobit internet connection.... It took me over 6 minutes just to log on and read the first mail.

I unfortunately introduced a bug in the County setup in DfW when I introduced the support for the Celtic Cup format. I forgot to turn off a testbit in the code when I was testing the Celtic Cup format. When trying to setup ta County match in the 2.5.0.24 version, it was asking for Celtic Cup teams every time. This bug has been fixed in the 2.5.0.25 version released today.
I'm in Long Beach, California at the moment. Luckily there was an internet connection in my hotel room. I'm leaving for Mexico in a few hours.

I'm leaving for USA on Sunday and I will be gone until 22nd of October. During that period, my internet connection may be very limited. For some strange reason, everytime I go on holiday or I am unavailable, I sell more licenses than ever, even if I tell everyone that I am not able to issue any unlock codes until I get back :)
If you need a license, please order before 20:00 CET on Saturday 6th of October, unless you want to wait until the 22nd.

Version 2.5.0.24 of Darts for Windows is out. Click here to download
New featues:

  • Support for Celtic Cup teams (13 men, 7 ladies)
  • Assign sound files to players. The PDC sound files must be installed
  • Added support for the "gsm.wav" sound file from the PDC game

  • Added option to hide the status bar in the main window
  • Added option to show a floating window in the bottom of the screen with the players name, points left, darts and legs to use in television production. This option must be turned on in the scoresheet window by right clicking between the scoresheets.
  • Added option to move the top panel in the scoresheet window to the bottom of the screen when used with the floating stats window.
  • The "How to use the sound files...." has been updated.

When playing against the computer in "match mode" (playing against mathces from a database), the program would go into an endless loop of "No score" after playing the number of legs from the original match. This bug is now fixed.
Setting board numbers and board time in a drawsheet in the "Tournament" screen has also been improved.

I have started to develope the next generation of Darts for Windows. The new product will be named Darts for Windows Professional. I'm going to rewrite the database engine and also the "motor" running DfW. The 2008 version has very complicated code so I have to rewrite the whole program from the bottom to add support for all the options I want to inlcude. I will try to make it more user friendly and fool proof. The option to browse all the legs while playing and also correction of errors in past legs. Add option for livescore on the internet and also internet play. I also want to improve the tournament part and also add Round Robin to the tournament option. Custom templates for custom games would also be nice. For example, create your own team type with any number of players and game format (mix singles and pairs for example in the same template). I have a lot of ideas, but it will of course take time. The price will also be higher than the 2008 version.

The 2.5.0.11 version have some bugs in the county setup.
MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE 2.5.0.12 VERSION WHO WILL BE RELEASED TONIGHT BEFORE YOU USE DFW IN A BICC COUNTY MATCH !
For once I have really made a fool out of myself when it comes to the county setup. I did a typing error causing a few problems...:(
A new updated version of "How to setup a BICC match in Darts for Windows" is available for download. It will also be included in the setup when installing the new version of DfW releasing later tonight.Download: Word PDF.
Known bugs in the 2.5.0.11 version of DfW:
There is a bug when printing a match in "BDO style". For some reason, the text on the printout is no longer transparent, covering some part of the lines dividing names and numbers.
When registering a new county team and you click outside the screen, the "County teams" will disappear. Minimize the program and the screen will be behind the program.
When editing an existing 12 players team, the team is set to 6 players and the last 6 boxes will be grayed out.
A new fixed version will be released tonight.

The British Inter-County Championships is starting on the weekend of Sept. 1-2. Darts for Windows 2008 has full support for the BICC format. Because of the new season start, I have decided to add some changes to DfW to improve the county part. All active counties in Great Britain have been added to the team names by default. A new field called "Display" (display name) have been added to the coming version. The display name is the name the team will be shown as.
Example: You create a county team and pick "Devon" as the team. In addition you can let "Devon" be shown as "Devon A" or "Dev Men’s A" or "Devon Men’s under 21" or whatever in the "Display name" box. The team will still be associated with Devon County.
Full support for youth county matches ("Men's Under 21", "Ladies Under 21" and "Under 18") will be added to the next release of DfW. The new version will hopefully be ready in a day or two.
Support for use of the announcer sound files from the computer game PDC World Championship Darts will also be implemented (wav files must be copied to the \dfwsound folder and the sound must be enabled from the "Settings -> Options" menu).

There is a bug in version 2.5.0.9. When adding new players, the team name dropdown box does not reset after adding a player. If you continue to add players with the same teamname, you will get the message Saving aborted. Blank firstname, lastname or team not allowed ! when trying to save. A quick fix for this is to reselect the team. A new version will be released as soon as possible.

18.08.2007
18:55 CET

Version 2.5.0.9 is released. Click here to download.
The bug in the "Autoplay" function is now fixed. When playing against the computer, the panel with the text "Throwing..." was not closing after the first leg was done. Added support for import and export of players in CSV format in the "Add new players" screen. All the BICC counties has also been added to the team names. You will now hoe the option to chose from normal teams and countries, BICC Counties only or both (in the "Add new players" screen). The drawsheet in the "Tournaments" screen is now searchable.
I always forget what kind of improvements and bug fixing I have done... :)

14:25 CET

I have added search capabilities in the drawsheet for the coming release of Darts for Windows. When you have a draw with for example 512 players, like they have in this weekends British Classic 2007, it takes forever to locate a player in the draw. The new option to search for a name or part of a name, saves you a lot of time. If you get a hit, the box also changes background colour to green and the drawsheet scrolls down to the box. If anyone needs this option now, drop me a mail and I will send a link to the unreleased version.
The Stan James 2007 database has been updated with the Taylor-Scholten match from yesterday.

Version 2.5.0.7 is now out Click here to download.
Fixed a bug when starting a pairs match + some minor things. The most exiting new feature is in the "Autoplay" match/player mode. When the computer is scoring, the scores is now shown in text format, throw my throw.
Example for a 100 score:
SINGLE 20
*wait for next dart*
SINGLE 20
*wait for next dart*
TREBLE 20
Enjoy the new release.

22.07.2007
17:05 CET

There is a "bug" (or feature) in the latest version of Darts for Windows. When I was fixing a bug in the previous version, I forgot to turn of a debug message when starting a pairs match. You will get a dialog box with the database query, 4 times in a row before you can start a pairs match. This message will not prevent the program from working, it is only very annoying.

21.07.2007
12:40 CET

The focus is now on the improvement of the "Autoplay" function. Playing against matches/players in "Autoplay" mode is the most exiting new feature in the program for a long time. When playing against a player or a complete database, the name of the player you play against is now shown in the statusbar (not released yet). I will soon start developing the option for "Internet Play". I will at the same time include an option to exchange/send databases to other users by a single click of a button. An option to use the program for broadcasters is also going to be included. Dartsinmotion.nl is going to use DfW for the on-screen stats when streaming matches over the internet. Darts in Motion will be streaming darts on the 25th of July on www.dartsinmotion.nl.

After implementing the option to play against matches/players in a DfW database, my averages has raised by 5 points pr. dart (or 15 if you like the 3 dart average). I'm playing against the complete Lakeside 2007 database. That means all the matches, both men and women. Last night I even had a 9 darter attempt. I hit back to back 180's, but lost the leg (missed bull with my 12th dart). My revenge was a 156 checkout in the next leg. It's a lot easier to rise your game when playing against the big scores. I am 18-7 down after 25 legs. I average around 27 pr dart (81), the computer averages around 28.3 at the moment. The nice thing is that when I'm done with this match, I can use all the legs I played in the match and then play against them too :)

Some users still have problems running Darts for Windows on Vista. I simply hate Windows Vista. The secutity is tight as a ducks a.... The security is so tight that it prevents normal, harmless programs like DfW to run properly even if you are an Admin One solution to the problem is the following:

If you get the "Failed to set..." problem do the following:
On Windows Vista [Failed to set data for ''] error occurs on some occasions.
Temporary Solution: Left-click program's shortcut, click Properties and on the Compatibility page, check Run this program as an administrator. The problem is that Vista does not allow DfW to save some settings, even if you are logged in as admin.
The second solution:
1. Click on the "Start" button
2. Click on the "Computer" on the right side to list the disk drives.
3. Doubleclick on the C drive
4. Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Darts for Windows folder
5. Right click on the "Darts for Windows" folder and click on the menu item "Properties" (the last choice in the menu)
6. Click on the "Security" tab (no. 3 from the left)
7. Click on the user "Users(%COMPUTER_NAME%\Users)" (%COMPUTER_NAME% is the name of your computer)
8. Click the button "Change" (or "Edit". I'm not sure because my version of Vista is Norwegian)
9. Click in the next window on the same user ("Users(%COMPUTER_NAME%\Users)") and tick the box "All permissions".
10. Click "Ok" to save the changes and then "Ok" in the prior window
11. It should now work :)

I'm playing at the moment against ALL players from the Lakeside 2007 database.
If you check the box "All matches" when playing against the computer in "match" mode, you play against all male and female players in the whole database (in my sample, Lakeside 2007). This is just GREAT. I never know who is playing the leg, which leg it is or how it's going to end. In the Lakeside 2007 database, it is 786 legs to play against !

06.07.2007
16:25 CET

Version 2.5.0.0 is now released. Click here to download. I have had a great time testing this new version. I have played the Lakeside 2007 final , the Premier League final + a few more matches. It has been really fun to play against the top names in darts.
I also manged to win a few legs :)
I can now play against my own scores from those matches :)
A new "Howto" for playing against matches/players is also available. Click here... to learn howto setup the program for playing against a match/player.
You must of course also download a database (on the right hand side) or use one of your own to be able to play against other matches/players scores.AT the moment, I have 57 databases available for download.
All the BICC counties has been added to the program. Also added support for register BDO player id's making it easy to import scores and stats from a BICC match into the new "BDO Tons for Windows". Tons for Windows is the new software BDO uses to create the tables in the BICC system.

05.07.2007
20:25 CET

The new version is almost ready. I only have som final testings left. Right now I'm playing against Terry Jenkins's score from the Premier League final 2007 :)
Open any database and play against the matches in the database (the winning legs only). It is also possible to play against the score of both the players in a match.
F.ex., I can play against all the legs in the Lakeside 2007 final. It is better to play against all the legs than just one of the players (my opinion).

01.07.2007

I have had several remainders on the issue that when playing against the computer, if the computer leaves itself 170, it never misses even if you had set the maximum random outshot to 60. I will change this to do it random with a 5% chance to checkout...:)
There is a quick fix to this...Just edit the template you use and remove/edit all scores ending on 1. The chance now for leaving the computer on 170 is 0 (it depends of course on the other scores in the template).
The new version of DfW has been delayed. I will probably include the new "Autoplay" option in the next version. The new "Autoplay" will give you the option to play against other maches/players from DfW databases. You can download f.ex. the complete Premier League database and play against all the players/matches in that database. Pick a match, pick the player you want to play against.

I will start the work to implement the option to play agianst the computer using the score from real matches taken from major tournaments like Lakeside, World Masters, Ladbrokes.com, Premier League and so on.
The database from England Open 2007 will be available for download in a day or two.

I have finally solved the Windows Vista problem. The new 2.4.2.0 release now runs on Windows Vista. Click here to download the new release.
The only downside of solving the problem is that all registered users downloading the new version will have to reunlock the program. The unlock code is till the same so there should not be any problems. All unlock codes for registered users is in the online database. Just click the link in the registration dialog to unlock the program (must be connected to the internet).
Btw, my personal opinion is that we don't need Windows Vista....I bought my last laptop with Windows Vista. The first thing I did was to buy a new XP license for it and scratch the disk (Dell wouldn't downgrade it to XP).....

19:40 CET

A new version of Darts for Windows 2008 is soon ready for release. No big news this time, only some minor changes and bugfixes. I'm rather busy at the moment with another project so I haven't got much time for DfW at the moment.

Phil Taylor beat Terry Jenkins 16-6 in tonights final of the PDC Premier League 2007.Jenkins beat Raymond van Barneveld 11-10 in legs in the semi-final.van Barneveld did not perform his best and struggeled throughout the whole match to hit the doubles.Phil Taylor took out Dennis Priestley 11-6 in the other semi-final.

I hope I can get my hands on the database from Welsh Open 2007 in a day or two. At the moment I am changing a couple of the reports in DfW (BDO style with detailed stats + some more). I'm not sure what I want to start with next, but I will probably start with implementing the support for Round Robin in the tournament screen.

The database from Fife Open 2007 is now online. The database contains the complete draw with all the results from both singles and pairs + all stats and scoresheets from the stage finals. Click here to download.
Thank you to Cliff Murray for donating the database.
I also want to thank Jan Prikryl for the Czech translation and Miguel Sousa for the Portugese translation of language.ini

For some strange reason, a few people have paid me for a license, but they have never answered any of my emails asking them to register their serial number. I can not guess the serial number because it is random and created upon first installation of DfW. When people pay me for a license, I don't understand why they are not asking for something in return... :)

Version 2.4.1.1 is out. Click here to download.
Added option to change the language in the menues and the menu hints. Default language is English in the program, but. Portugese and Norwegian is available for download on the left side under the section download language file. The "language.ini" is located in the C:\Program Files\Darts for Windows directory. Just replace the existing English language with one of the downloadable language files or translate the existing language.ini file to your own language. If you translate the language.ini to any other language, you may send it to me (contact info on the right side) and I will publish your language.ini on this site.

Thank you to Johan Sepers for donating the database.
In the next release of DfW, I will add support for translating parts of the program to any language. At the moment there will only be support for translating the menues and the menu hints, but it will expand in future versions. Language files will be available for download from this page as soon as they are available. As a test, DfW will be translated to Portugese and Norwegian.

I arrived from Denmark this morning and I have now uploaded all the unlock codes for those of you who could not wait until I was back to order a license :)
In the tournament screen, it is not possible at the moment to print out the result table from a pairs match. I did not have the time to include the code before the last release. I will fix it in a day or two, but first I will create the howto for the new Match Editor.

Darts for Windows 2008 version 2.4.0.1 is out.Click here to download. There was a bug in the "Print results from draw" in the Tournament screen. I have not had the time to write a howto for the new Match Editor, but I will do it next week.
I'm off to Denmark tonight. I will be back on Tuesday morning. During that time I will not answer any mails or issue any unlock codes. If you buy a license, please be patient...:)

18.04.2007

The new version of Darts for Windows is ready for release tomorrow night (thursday). The Match Editor is now working as expected. I have also fixed a couple of bugs and also added the option to set board and time for a whole group or a x number of matches at the same time by one single click in a draw sheet. I'm aslo going to include the option to print out the complete list of the result from a draw/tournament. If I get the time, I will include the support for creating PDF files straight from DfW, even if you don't have Acrobat Writer on your computer.

One of my customers have ripped me off by cancelling his eCheck after he recieved the unlock code. This is a rather stupid thing to do, because it is simply fraud and theft. I know his name, email and all the details about him. I'm contacting a few people at the moment to get a 100% identification of the person. As soon as I'm 110% sure, I will publish his full name, address, email, date of birth and the county team he plays for.I sure hope he is enjoying the free license....
Btw, his email address is smartreggie@aol.com. If anyone of you knows this email address please contact me by clicking on the link on the right side.

My back problems are almost healed and the flu is gone so I have done some serious upgrading of DfW. The new MatchEditor is now in the final test stage. With the latest addition of the Match Editor to DfW, I think that I now have made the almost complete darts package for all kinds of use. There are of course always room for new functionality and improvements. I would be very happy for some feedback and suggestions for new functionality in this program. To contact me, just click the link on the right side.

The new version of Darts for Windows is delayded because I have catch the flu and I also have som serious back problems (prolapse) :)
This have been the worst Easter in my whole life...maybe...
I may be a little out of shape, but I have some great news. In the next version of DfW there will be support for editing a match after it's over. This have been the weakest part of Darts for Windows in my opinion. It's no problem to correct errors during a match, but if you're not aware of the error(s) until the match is over and you want to have the stats 100% correct, this is the solution. I will not include support for changing the match result (no use, fatal errors like that should be corrected when they happens).

Version 2.3.2.2 is out. This version is a bugfixed version of 2.3.2.1. All bugs was related to the newly updated "Tournament" screen.

10.03.2007
12:00 CET

Version 2.3.2.1 is now released. The new version have full support for tournaments up to 1024 players. In theory, there is no limit to the number of players supported. If the tournament is larger than 1024, just split it into two 1024 drawsheets and then do a new tournament (drawsheet) for the last fex. 64 or 128 players.
Just use your imagination... :)
The code for print outs of the drawsheets have been totally rewritten and the layout have been redesigned. See the samples below (in PDF format)

Click here to download the latest 2.3.2.1 version.
I have also uploaded a database with two matches from thursday's Premier League (Priestley-Manley,Scholten-van Barneveld).

The bug in the setup program from version 2.3.1.6 to version 2.3.1.8 is now fixed. On some computers you would get an "C:\Windows\Shellnew" error when starting the program. The quick fix for this error was to manually create the "Shellnew" folder in the C:\Windows (Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server) directory or C:\Winnt on Windows 2000.
The 2.3.1.9 version will be released as soon as the new printing functions for the new 1024 players draw is ready. There is a bug in the import players from WDF rankings.
If a player has the apostrophe character in his/hers name, the import will stop (O'Malley,O'Shea and so on...). This bug is fixed, but only in the unreleased 2.3.1.9 version...

The division four county match, Tyne & Wear vs. Shropshire, played last weekend, is now in the database download section.
Thank you to Steve Mann for donating the database.

Support for up to 1024 players in one single group/tournament have been added to the next unreleased version. The "Tournament" mode now supports 8,16,32,64,128,256,512 and 1024 players pr. group/tournament. I'm considering to implement the option to split at large tournament into groups, making it easier to get the full overview. Support for board and board time will also be added to the drawsheet.

Version 2.3.1.8 is out. Click here to download.
The "Can not perform this operation on a open dataset" bug in "Import match" function has now been fixed. Wrong player names shown for the left side team in the "Details" screen in a Six Nations match have been fixed. Added support for printout a list of all players in a tournament in alphabetic order in the "Tournament" screen. Click here to view a sample PDF file for a 256 players draw (the player names was borrowed from the list of players from the Scottish Open 2007...). Use the checkbox to the left of each name to add a checkmark when registering players in a tournament.

Six new databases have been added to the database download section.
Thank you to Wayne Williams for donating the databases.
All databases are in Darts for Windows 2.3 format.
New databases: There are a couple of bugs in the current version of DfW. The most serious bug is the “Cannot perform this operation on an open dataset” in the “Import match” function. The bug has been fixed, but no new version of DfW has been released yet. There was also a small bug in one of the new Six Nations reports. Wrong playername was shown for team two in the “Details” screen. This is fixed in the unreleased version. In the next version of DfW, support for printing all players in a tournament in alphabetical order. Very handy to use in the registration of the players at the venue.

The tutorial how to play against the computer... have been updated to the latest 2008 version. It's now a lot easier to understand how to play against the computer :)
The norwegian howto for playing against the computer has also been updated to the latest 2008 version.

22.02.2007
20:10 CET

The new version of Darts for Windows 2008 (2.3.1.6) has now been released. The option to play Cricket darts is not included because of other priorities (Six Nations). The new version have full support for Six Nations 5 players team. The database has been changed from Access to my own DFW format.
It's now possible to doubleclick on any DFW database to open it in DfW.
It's also be possible to create new blank database by just right clicking in Explorer and then create the database by clicking on the item "New" in the menu. The whole program has undergone a rather massive overhault. Because of the Six Nations in Netherlands this weekend (thats why I have to release the support for Six Nations...) no new documentation on the new options will be available until next week. Most of the new options should be rather self explaining anyway :)
Note: All the databases on this site has been converted to the new DFW format.

18.02.2007
12:15 CET

I'm back from Portugal.
The new release of DfW is still not ready. The support for cricket darts will be in the new release, but my knowledge about American cricket darts is rather limited so don't expect a perfect product in the first release :)
I used the information found on this page to create the support for cricket.
Please note that most of the howtos and instructions still contains screenshots from Darts for Windows 2005, not 2008. The 2008 version is almost the same as 2005 so there should not be any problem to understand the guides, but I will update all the howtos when I get the time.

04.02.2007
09:15 CET

American cricket darts will be included in the next version (In Norway we call it "Mickey Mouse"...). I'm no cricket expert, but I will do my best to try to create a good layout and functionality. I will only go for singles in my first version, but support for pairs will be added later. As far as I understand, there are two ways of playing cricket. The first one is easy to understand, throw at any of the numbers (15-20) or bull. The second one is "no slop", start on the 20's and finish on the bull. I will be more than happy if anyone could send me any tips or tricks regarding cricket, fex. how to work out some kind of stats from a cricket match. I guess the number of darts used to close the game would be interesting ?

The database file format in Darts for Windows will be changed in the next version of DfW.In all versions up to this date I have used the Microsoft Access database file format, but due hacking (using a Access password cracker) and publishing of the database password on a dutch site, I will no longer use the Access file format. All downloadable databases on this site will be converted to the new format at the same time as the next release of DfW. From the next release, all licensed users must update to the latest version (it's free anyway) to be able to open the databases published on this site. It will still be possible to open MDB files for backward compability, but the databases will no longer be possible to open in Access. All old DfW files opened with the new version will be converted to the new file format on the fly. The new file extension will be DFW. The new extension will be associated with Darts for Windows making it really easy to open a DfW database by just clicking on the file. The activation of the autoplay feature (play against the computer) has been simplified in the new unreleased version. I must admit that it's not easy to turn on the autoplay function if your'e not a computer expert...The autoplay function has been moved from the "Tools" menu into the "Match wizard" screen. I have no release date for the new version because of all the testing of the new database file format.

The Europe Cup 2006 database has been corrected and updated with the complete draw for mens singles, ladies singles, mens pairs and ladies pairs. While adding all the pairs and singles matches to the draw, I discovered that 3 matches contained either wrong winner (the players was probably switched in the scoresheet) or wrong team names. There were 1 ladies singles with wrong winner and two mens pairs with uncorrect teams (A team instead of B teams and vica versa). Those 3 errors also affected the total stats for the involved players. I'm in no way responible for those errors ( the database was donated to me). The complete draws is available from the "File -> Tournament" menu in DfW 2005 and 2008.

23.01.2007
12:38 CET

I'm sorry that I wasn't aware of Avon using the name "West of England" as their team name. I have now corrected the team names in the database.

Here's the databases from a couple if this weekends county matches.

Thank you to Sue Getty and Steve Mann for donating the databases.

The 2008 version of Darts for Windows (2.3.0.4) has been released. The updated version contains a few bugfixes and improvements.
  • If no score, just press the SPACEBAR on the keyboard
  • The county setup has been redesigned completely under the "hood".
  • In the "Rebuild all stats in database" there was a bug when rebuilding a database with one or more county matches.
  • The "HOW TO SETUP A COUNTY MATCH IN DARTS FOR WINDOWS" is now included in the setup file
  • The default background colour has changed from blue to charcoal
  • Can't remember the rest of the fixes...My short term memory isn't that good I guess :)
Darts for Windows has now changed the sub version to 2008. All 2005 owners can also use the 2008 version.
A new and more detailed help file/tutorial, "HOW TO SETUP A COUNTY MATCH IN DARTS FOR WINDOWS", is now available as downloadable file. The new howto is only available in Microsoft Word and PDF format. The howto also covers some basics and tips and tricks on how to use Darts for Windows.

It's nice to now that two of my customers has won both the Ladbrokes.com 2007 and Lakeside 2007 in the last two weeks.
Darts for Windows
is your best practice partner I guess.... :)
The Lakeside 2007 database hase been updated. Hit percent on doubles was missing from the ladies final. The hit percent in the de Ruiter-Nixon match had by accident been added twice, this has now been corrected. The hit percent on doubles is still missing from the final. If I get the time, I will browse through the final tonight and add the missing hit percent. Except from the small glitches, the database is now 100% complete. The database is actually the one used by the BDO on their on-stage computer (a big thank you to the BDO, Sue Getty, Mick Getty and Vic Sexton) .
Click here to download the complete (all matches) database from Lakeside 2007 with all the scores and stats + the complete draw.
You need Darts for Windows 2005, version 2.0 or higher to open the database. If you don't know how to open a database in Darts for Windows, have a look at this article.

Niels de Ruiter is ready for the semi-final after beating Gary Robson 5-4 in a thriller of a match. The final set went to a tie-breaker. In the semi-final he will meet Phill Nixon who beat Paul Hanvidge 5-4. Phill was 4-1 up and had lot of chances to take home the match earlier, but he struggeled with the winning doubles.

Darts for Windows 2005 is going to be renamed to Darts for Windows 2008 in the next release (2.3.0.x). The 2005 makes the software name sound "old" (it's not, it's updated all the time..). The new version will look the same except for the blue colour in the logo and background of the scoresheets will be changed from navy blue to charcoal (colour code #404040 for web...). The background colour of the scoresheets is anyway configurable, so I don't think it matters :)

12.01.2007

His opponent in the semi-final will be Mervyn King. Mervyn came from 3 sets down against Tony Eccles, to take the match 5-4.

I have closed the forum due to a numerous numbers of false registrations from Google. They try to register and then send personal messages with all kinds of shit to the members of the forum. I managed to stop all attempts, but I got tired of deleting 20 fake users a day.

Last night in the match between Paul Hanvidge and Martin Phillips, the referee did an error and called wrong score in one of the legs. The score was corrected by the referee two-three times. The score was set to 39 by the referee, but it was actually 37. Martin Phillips left 85, but it was set to 83 because the referee called 39 as the score. I just red on the Deutscher Dart-Verband forum that they blame the software used for the error. This is totally rubbish !
The person operating the computer is NOT a referee, only a person entering the scores into the computer, called by the referee. Darts for Windows can correct any score at any stage of a leg, as many times as you like. So don't blame the software or the computer operator for this error. Here's the link to the article (in German).

Darts for Windows 2005 version 2.2.0.27 is now released.
Changelog:

  • The size of the legs and sets boxes in the scoresheet screen has been expanded. Because the screen at the Lakeside stage is placed rather far away to the left, the players have problems seeing the leg and set standings. I hope the resizing will help the player to increase their performance :) (just kidding...)
  • When clicking on a match in the drawsheet, the "Remove player from draw" was set as default action. This has now been changed to "View scoresheets from match" as the default action.

Darts for Windows 2005 is to be used as the offical stats program at Lakeside 2007.
I will be publishing the database with all the scores, results and the draw on a daily basis. For the first time at Lakeside, there will be no markers on stage, only Darts for Windows 2005 and a LCD/Plasma screen with the electronic scoresheets. This is exactly the same as we did here in Norway (Norway Open, Europe Cup and Nordic Cup) about 10 years ago :)
We had a great success with this. As long as you have a computer operator who knows the program well, is fast, clearminded and sober... there will be no problems. If you do any mistakes, pressing CTRL-Z keys (the "undo" command) on the keyboard will get you out of trouble at once. I wish the BDO all the best for Lakeside 2007.

What a match !
Raymond van Barneveld won the Ladbrokes.com WDC 2007 by beating Phil Taylor 7-6 in the final. The match went all the way to the final leg. Raymond won the last set 6-5 in a tie-breaker. Raymond hit 21 maximums. Let's hope it was Darts for Windows 2005 who helped Barney to win the title :)
The database from Ladbrokes.com 2007 is now completed with all the matches.

09:15 CET
The Ladbrokes.com WDC 2007 datbase is now up to date. The database contains all 60 matches. It's funny to see that the stats from PDC (or SKY Sports) are uncorrect. Before the last quarter final between Taylor-Webster, the number of 180's in this tournament were 434, but Sid Waddell claimed it was 431. I'm now going to count every single one just to make sure Darts for Windows 2005 has the correct number of 180's and I'm pretty sure that it has !
09:37 CET
I hav now counted every single 180's from all the scoresheets and the correct number is 443 180's so far in the tournament so Sid was wrong.

The Ladbrokes.com WDC 2007 datbase is now up to date. The database contains all 62 matches up to this date and time. PDC is still wrong when it comes to the number of 180's. The correct number of 180's so far are 466 after the semi-finals.

  • Added support for drag and drop a match from the "Matchlog" screen into the drawsheet in the "Tournaments" screen.
  • Removed the outshot tip from the status bar in the scoresheet window.
  • Added separate outshot tip in the scoresheet window. If a player has a outshot, a yellow panel with the suggested outshot will be visible in the bottom of the scoresheet. Both scoresheets has separate panels with the tip.
This option can be turned off/on from the screen in the "Settings -> Options" menu (see under "Misc" and "Show outshot tip")
  • Added a new "howto" on how to use the new "Import match" function. The howto is located in the "howto" section or click here
  • When assigning a match by drag and drop from the "Matchlog" or a match is started from the drawsheet of a tournament, the background colour of the box will change to indicate that the match has a match assigned to it.

13:55 CET
Darts for Windows 2005 version 2.2.0.23 has now been released. This time I have tried to log most of the changes, but it was to many small changes to show all changes in the changelog :)
Changelog:
  • Added option to turn off the black stats screen on match end. This new option is located from the menu "Settings -> Options".
  • Fixed a bug in import players from external database. Sometimes the import would stop and display an error message.
  • Fixed bug when restoring a match. Sometimes the score was sendt to the wrong side of the scoresheet even if the arrow indicating who's throwing was pointing at the correct side.
  • Fixed bug when recording throws on doubles. There were no check if the previous rest score was a legal outshot or not when the new rest score was 50 or below (a possible throw on double). Example: The rest score is 188, you throw 140 and the program would ask you if you had a shot on a double because you left 50 or less.
  • When starting a match from the drawsheet and then swap players side (left to right or opposite), the result of the match would displayed oposite and also the wrong player would be moved to the next round because there were no checking for the players id, only the position the player had in the drawsheet (upper is left side, lower is right side). This is now fixed.
  • Added support for scrolling with the mouse wheel in the tournament screen.
  • Fixed a bug in the screen showing legs and outshots. An outshot is not dependant on the gameformat, only legs is affected by the gameformat. This has been fixed. The program now ignores the gameformat when showing outshots. It does not matter if you play 201 or 1001. A 170 outshot is the same anyway. A 12 dart 301 is not the same as a 12 dart 501....
  • Added a check for internet connection when clicking on the link "I'm allready registered - Get my unlock code" in the registration dialog box. No use to click on the link if not connected to the internet.
  • Added the option to edit some of the settings (title, description and gameformat) in an existing tournament in the "Tournament" screen.
  • Added a little extra width on the brackets in the "Tournament" screen (just to fit fex. "Raymond van Barneveld,NL" and other "wide named" players)

13:45 CET
The new version of DfW is a little delayed because of implementing a couple of new functions. In the new version there will be support for importing matches from external DfW databases.
I also want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas !
The Ladbrokes.com database will probably go online tomorrow.

I have noticed that quite a lot of the downloaders of Darts for Windows 2005 is trying to download the unlock code directly from DfW. There's nothing wrong about that, but you have to buy a license and register the serial number in my database to get this to work :)
Darts for Windows is not a freeware program.

19.12.2006
21:02 CET
A new version of DfW is just around the corner. I will also publish a database (probably tomorrow) with some of the matches from Ladbrokes.com 2007. I only have Darts TV so I record the sound first and then fill inn all the scores by listening to the recordings. The complete drawsheet with all the results will also be included in the same database.

I'm considering to exclude Google from indexing my pages. Why ? .... because Google is not just indexing pages for searching on Google, but they also try to register fake persons on my forum to get access to the members list and the member email to spread SPAM !!!!
There's no doubt about it. I work with computers and networks and know exactly how things work and I can also track down who's the owner of IP addresses. Google Inc is responsible for all the IP addresses I have found so far, so beware... Googe is not just Googeling......
From my web server logs I can see that Google first scan my pages (no problem...) and then try to register with some fake email and fake names (and fake email address) on my forum...

10.12.2006
15:00 CET
I'm considering to include support for Pentathlon in Darts for Windows. I was the Norwegian Pentathlon Champion in 1988 and I really loved the format. It would be very good for practice if I add the possibillity to play a complete Pentathlon against the computer. I will also try to make it possible to run a complete 20 player Pentathlon tournament in DfW with a live points table.

The Darts for Windows 2005 installation file (MSI file) has been updated with the GDIPLUS.DLL file for computers running Windows 2000. This update is only for users of Windows 2000 who get's the gdiplus.dll was not found error when trying to start Darts for Windows 2005.

Version 2.2.0.16 is now released.
When installing 2.2.0.16 you have to reenter your unlock code.I'm sorry for this, but I had to do some changes in the encryption to get Darts for Windows 2005 to work with Windows Vista. At the moment DfW 2005 will not run on Vista. All registered users can now download their unlock codes directly from Darts for Windows (see this link).
Changelog:
  • Fixed major Microsoft problem, OLE error 800A0E7F. This problem would make DfW to freeze. Some computers had the problem, bust most did not (problem occured when trying to open the "Averages" screen).
  • When installing the program for the first time, DfW will no longer ask you to enter a name for the new database.DfW will now create dartsforwin.mdb as the default database.
  • DfW will no longer create the two sample players, "Player A" and "Player B"
  • Added England, Scotland,Wales and Netherlands as default team names.

05.12.2006
20:58 CET
Version 2.2.0.16 is about to be released. Fixed a very serious Microsoft related problem. On some occations the program would lock up completly when clicking on the Averages from the View menu.
Another important thing is the following:
When installing 2.2.0.16 you have to reenter your unlock code.I'm sorry for this, but I have to do some changes in the encryption to get Darts for Windows 2005 to work with Windows Vista. At the moment DfW 2005 will not run on Vista. All registered users can get their unlock codes here.

02.12.2006
11:35 CET
It's now possible for all registered users of Darts for Windows 2005 to get their unlock code directly from my customer archive. This is very handy if you have lost your code.
By entering your name, serial number and e-mail, you can get your code at any time. The archive is 98% complete so most of you registered owners of DfW should find their unlock code there.
Your code can be found here.

23.11.2006

Version 2.2.0.14 is released.
Changelog:
  • It's no longer possible to uncheck a "bye" player in the random draw screen. A "bye" player should be treated as as seeded player.
  • When entering the result of a match in the drawsheet of a tournament, the result was not saved (fixed)
  • It's no longer allowed to do a random draw without filling up the drawsheet first (this was a bug)
  • Added an option to use a filter when improting players from the WDF rankings. The filter also supports * as a wildcard. The filter is case insensitive.
  • Added the option to fill inn the number of "bye" players when setting up a tournament. Fex. if you have 57 players you must use a 64 players draw and add 7 "bye" players to fill up the draw. "Bye" players is filled inn from the last match of the first round in the draw and up.
  • A "bye" player is now shown in bold in the drawsheet.
  • When doing a random draw, a player with "bye" in the first round did not move automatically to the next round (bug fixed)

22.11.2006
20:10 CET
There are still a couple of bugs in the tournament section of DfW. A new bugfixed version will be released as soon as possible. I will also do some improvements in the tournament and player import section too.

The 2.2.0.10 version of Darts for Windows is now out.
New in this version:

Look at this article on how to set it up.
  • It's now possible to import players directly from the world rankings(at the moment there are 650 names in the WDF's database) by a click of a button.
  • When printing out scoresheets, a black divider line was drawn too long. This is now fixed.
  • When using the program on stage most players does not like to see their own averages. The option to turn this off has been there for a while (from the options menu), but I have now added a popup menu when you right click in the same panel as the averages from where you can turn the averages on or off.
  • When printing out a county match (BDO styled printout), the printout will now print 6 matches on each page regardless of the number of legs played.
  • When starting a new match you must now decide which side starts the match. Normally the left player always goes first, but sometimes this is not the case.
  • I don't remember the rest of the improvements.... :)

07.11.2006
14:33 CET

  • The matchlog is now filled automatically when opening. This was changed in tha last version, but I found out that it was better to let it autofill when loading.
  • Visual improvements in the "Add new players","Create pair...","Create four persons team" and "Create County team" screens.
  • Fixed a bug in the womens county matches. When playing a womens county match, on rare occations the playernames would be picked from the mens county team instead of womens.
  • Fixed a bug in the "Create County team" screen. When adding a ladies county team, the listbox was filled with the mens county team instead of the ladies when the save icon was clicked.
  • The BDO style printout of county matches from the "Matchlog" screen has been completely rewritten. The printout shall now be 100% compatible with BDO standards. This function is available when right clicking on a County match in the "Matchlog" window. A big thank you goes to Sue Getty for all help on this one.

In 1998 I was responsible for all the statistics in the Europe Cup held in Oslo, Norway. At that time I used 'Darts for Windows 95' for all the stats.
A couple of days ago I got a request from Holland for the scores and stats from that tournament. I managed to find some of the data and electronic scoresheets so I imported the data into a Darts for Windows 2005 database. The database contains the ladies pairs and singles semi-finals (can't find the finals at the moment) and the mens semi's and finals from singles, pairs and teams. Darts for Windows 2005 was used by the BDO at the televised British Internationals 2006 with great success. For those of you who watched the darts on Eurosport, you may have noticed that there were no markers on stage. Darts for Windows 2005 was used as an electronic scoresheet on stage using a large LCD screen/tv standing to the left of the players. It's nice to see that others follow in the fotsteps of NorwegianDarts Federation who did the same first time in 1995 (no markers on stage). The database from British Internationals 2006 is available for download in the "download dfw databases" section on the right side.

    02.04.2006
By a mistake, I deleted the demo version from the download folder :) . This is now fixed. The Premier League match between Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld is now available for download (see download section on the right side). You need Darts for Windows 2005 to view the match

    29.03.2006
There are a couple of sites who links directly to the 9 darter video. Please don't do that. It's better to link to www.darts.homelinux.com instead. The video file has been renamed because of the direct linking....

    23.03.2006
Raymond van Barneveld did a 9 dart leg live on tv tonight. You can download Barney's 9 dart leg from the "download video" section on the right side. The size is just over 5 megabytes.

    15.03.2006
A new version is out. It is now possible to hide averages in the scoresheet. The reason for this is that some players find it disturbing to view their averages during a match, especially if you use the the program on stage and there is no marker or paper scoresheet, only a monitor with Darts for Windows 2005 showing the sorces and rest. To turn averages on or off, click on the "Options" menu and then on "Misc" in the list box on the left side.

There is not much going on at the moment. The next feature in Darts for Windows will be percentage hits on doubles. This will be an option and will only be available in singles. Planning for version 2.0 has also started. I will probably start from scratch. The reason for this is that I want to implement a lot more features who needs careful planning. Version 2.0 will be a complete tournament package with draw sheets and a lot of new features like assigning ranking points to tournaments when you use Darts for Windows. I will also split all the players into an external database. Then you can fill your database with thousands of players, making it easy when you have a tournament and just need to add the players to the draw sheet. Seeding will of course also be included. Support for live scoring will also be included in verson 2.0 and of course, remote play via internet. I may also include a possibility to hook up to a live match on the internet for viewing the scores (a kind of live scoring). I may also develope a new lite version of DfW with only the possibility for playing against the computer in singles mode. This will be a cheap version (£10). If anybody has any comments or suggestions, drop be a mail.

A new version is out. The changelog is rather small. All the functions from the BETA version is testet and included in the new version. The registration form has been updated with some new information on how to buy a license and also where to buy it.
The demo version has now got some limitations. From this version and on it's only possible to play 401 legs instead of 501 or whatever you choose. The pairs and team functions is also disabled. The sets function is also disabled. The demo version is a full version, but needs the unlock code to get all the functions to work.
Feel free to tip me on how to improve my program (click on the link under "contact")
